Today, the Tsawwassen First Nation community is mourning a heartbreaking tragedy that occurred during the Truth and Reconciliation Walk.

My heart is with the families and loved ones of the two individuals who lost their lives, those who were injured, and everyone affected by this devastating loss. I extend my deepest condolences to the Tsawwassen First Nation community as they grieve.

That this tragedy occurred on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation makes the loss all the more profound. On a day meant for reflection, healing and coming together, a community is now carrying unimaginable sorrow.

While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have indicated that this appears to have been a tragic medical emergency and that there is no evidence that the incident was intentional.

We are deeply grateful to the first responders, medical teams, and community members who responded with compassion and care.

As we mourn alongside the Tsawwassen First Nation community, may we hold close those who are grieving, support one another, and honour the lives that were lost.
